Apartments in Boston’s West End

The apartments available in Boston’s West End are generally not old and quaint, but for many who live there, that’s part of the neighborhood’s appeal. Once considered a slum by wealthy Bostonians, much of the West End’s crowded housing stock was demolished in the 1950s and its mostly immigrant residents displaced to make room for Boston’s “urban renewal.” While the city fathers did manage to level the West End (and with it the famous and wild Scollay Square), they didn’t completely erase the neighborhood’s charm or history. West End real estate is never far from historic landmarks such as the city’s first African American meeting house and the world-famous Charles Bulfinch house.

Change is still happening in the West End, but most people would agree that this time, it’s for the better. The area’s defining landmark is now the striking Zakim Bridge, an extension of Boston’s shining new below-ground highway system, and the old elevated green line has been torn down, bringing much needed air and light into the area. Today apartments in Boston’s West End are largely upscale highrises in the heart of the old West End with a mixture of modern lofts clustered around North Station. If you’re looking for an easy commute to downtown Boston, you couldn’t ask for a better location for an apartment rental in the West End. An apartment in the West End is just steps to all the best that Boston has to offer, including shopping and nightlife in Quincy Market, the North End, Boston Harbor, and the Downtown Crossing shopping district. There was a famous sign advertising apartment rentals in the West End to commuters that read: If you lived here, you’d be home now. Having an apartment in the West End makes easy city living a reality.
