Choosing a North Cambridge apartment
North Cambridge isn’t always the top pick for apartment searchers, who can be lured by the flash of Harvard Square or the easy centrality of Central or Kendall Squares. But those who do choose a North Cambridge apartment are happy they do. North Cambridge is a primarily residential area that features quiet side streets, parks, a close by commercial district, and plenty of great apartments to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a cozy studio in a brick apartment building or a spacious duplex with a yard and porch, you’ll probably find what you’re looking for in North Cambridge. Apartments in North Cambridge can be as close to the action as any in Harvard Square, Central Square, or Inman Square!
The main avenue through North Cambridge is Massachusetts Avenue, which runs from Porter Square to the Arlington border. Nearly this entire length of Mass Ave features a wide variety of retail shops, restaurants, taverns, yoga and martial arts studios, and residences. A large bus yard in North Cambridge was recently developed into attractive new rowhouses, adding even more choice to the North Cambridge real estate market. Porter Square is a large transportation hub, with commuter rail, Red Line, and bus services that reach downtown Boston and the surrounding areas. Cutting a wide green swath from Davis Square through North Cambridge and on to Lexington is the Minuteman Bike Trail, a popular multi-use trail that is packed with bikers, skaters, runners, and walkers in the warmer months. At the western end of the neighborhood is the MBTA Alewife Red Line station and an adjacent office/industrial area along Cambridgepark Drive.
